DECORATING TIPS

Some tips to enhance your decorating!

While heavy draperies and valances block out a larger proportion of the natural light than less voluptuous shades, this need not always be the case. If you love the look of drapes, but also want to let in maximum natural light, hang them from extra long curtain rods that allow the curtains to be opened clear of all window casings.

Draperies cut extra long make a window appear taller and adds a luxurious feel. To add height to the windows and to create a sense of luxury, cut drapes full length so they touch the floor, if not puddle onto it. Letting the curtains fall into a puddle of fabric on the floor adds to the feeling of no-expense-spared opulence.

The longer the curtains, the more elegant the room looks. You can add length by installing the rod or valance at ceiling height, and by letting the curtains fall full length to the floor even if the window is much smaller.

Despite their elegant proportions, old windows are very often drafty. Generous valances provide a beautiful and effective way to reduce the chill. Drapes that reach right down to the floor ensure that all potential drafts are kept well at bay.

Plenty of natural daylight is a priority in rooms such as sunrooms, which are used predominantly during the day, yet there is a need for a feeling of privacy and a furnished look. Call us for ideas that can provide both!

Identifying your decorating style:

What’s your style- Traditional, Contemporary or Eclectic?

Traditional Style – Traditional Style decorating is Lavish and detailed, featuring rich woods, such as mahogany or cherry, and patterned fabric in distinctive colors.

Contemporary Style – Contemporary Style decorating can be described as ‘less is more’ with the number of furnishings and accessories kept to a minimum. In many contemporary rooms, an outstanding piece of furniture, a dramatic carpet or a large Painting becomes a focal point.

Eclectic Style – Combines the best qualities of both Traditional and Contemporary; providing the warmth of Traditional with the simplicity of Contemporary. More personal decors are often achieved by blending styles, rather than following one style theme.
